LCC Community Warms Up for School Year 2009 – 2010 Workshops and Assembly Held

Gearing up for the opening of classes on June 15, the faculty and staff underwent a two-day Seminar-Workshop on June 5 and 8 at the school’s Audio-visual Room.

The first of the set is a talk called the “The Science of Happiness” that transpired from 8a – 12nn of June 5. Facilitated by PAASCU Administrator Gloria Cruz, the forum underscored on the significance of maintaining a positive disposition despite the stress that may be brought about by the demands of one’s work and personal affairs. Ms. Cruz also presented tips / guidelines on how to achieve and maintain a healthy state of mind and reminded everyone that such must always be prioritized above everything else.

The afternoon of June 5 had Judge Agripino Bravo, a faculty member of the College of Business Education and Accountancy, discussing on “Work Ethics and Legal Issues.” Judge Bravo presented selected points from the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers and cited for each provision, cases actually decided upon by the Supreme Court. He stressed to the faculty members that it would do them well to know and adhere to the provisions of the said law. After Judge Bravo’s presentation, Mr. Lito Titular, chair of the Lipa City Colleges Multi-purpose Cooperative that shall be implemented starting this school year. He also invited the newly hired members of the institution to become members of the cooperative.

Dr. Diosdada Boiser, the school’s Vice President for Academic Affairs packed the faculty on the morning of June 8 for a Seminar-Workshop on Understanding by Design (UbD), which she described as a participative and student-centered method of coming up with lesson plans for high school and syllabi of instruction for college. She went through the salient points of UbD and requested the faculty members to start implementing this method this school year. She also enjoined the teachers to ensure and maintain connectedness to the students so they would find their stay in LCC a truly worthwhile one.

The annual General Assembly followed suit on the afternoon of that day. Mr. Joe Vincent Abiera, Vice President for Administration and Corporate Affairs, congratulated everyone as the Education, Management, and High School Programs of the school have been awarded Level 2 Accredited Status by the PACUCOA. He also talked about the further plans of development for the school and asked for everyone’s continued support. After which, Ms. Jenny Reyes, Human Resources Development Officer, presented the newly-hired employees for this school year. She also discussed some revisions in the Employees Manual specifically those pertaining to benefits and status of employment. Dr. Jessie Baltazar, School Physician, then took on AH1N1 by presenting data on said flu including its symptoms, prevention, and management. The Assembly wrapped up with a Closing Message delivered by High School Principal Rosalinda Mercado.
