Champion Golfer and LCC Athletic Scholar Continues to Club Opponents
2nd year-high school student Gretchen Villacencio has, for a time now, been adding feathers to LCC’s cap as she continues to be a golfer of the first order. With 8 Championship Awards tucked securely on her belt, a feat that she accomplished in less than a year (July 2008 – June 2009), Villacencio continues her winning streak in the 14th King Solomon Golf Tournament held at the Fernando Air Base Golf Club on June 20, 2009. In said event, she emerged as First Placer in the event’s Low Net category.
The petite young lady has been to several places in the country as she pursues her passion. She has even gone to Bangkok, Thailand on March 2008 as part of the Philippine delegation to the Thailand Ladies Amateur Open Golf Championship at the Green Valley Country Club.
Hailed by Jake Ayson, Executive Director of the National Golf Association of the Philippines as the as the “Star of the Future” (Business Mirror, February 13, 2008 issue), 13-year old Gretchen remains unassuming and quips that she does what she does for the love of it and not to achieve fame or celebrity status.
Apart from being a Champion Golfer, Gretchen is turning out to be an excellent juggler as well as she continues to do good in her studies, enjoy quality time with friends and family, and continue her trek to be eventually mentioned in the same breath as established golfers like Ikeda and Tanpinco and perhaps even Woods in the near future.
